Female Dalmatica
This ancient gown was worn by many early people and was popular in Roman and Byzantine times. It is shaped like a cross, and was appropriated as a distinctive garment by the enthusiastic and faithful followers of Christ, who wore angustus clavus (stripes) of deep red or purple.
  • The Dalmatica is a closed garment with wide 3/4 length sleeves and a slit neck.
  • The female version has angled sleeves and is floor length. (Male version can be found here)
  • The Dalmatica is often ornamented by the angustus clavus, strips of trim.
  • In the 4th century, the Dalmatica was improved. The Clavi bands were no longer restricted to colors and they became more elaborate.
  • Trim can be added.
